The First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) is a $10,000 one-off, tax-free payment available to eligible first-time buyers in Victoria. This grant is specifically for those purchasing or building a new home with a total value up to $750,000. It’s designed to significantly reduce the upfront costs associated with entering the property market.
In addition to the $10,000 grant, Victorian first-home buyers can save thousands more through stamp duty exemptions. If your new home is valued at $600,000 or less, you pay $0 stamp duty. For homes valued between $600,001 and $750,000, you are eligible for generous concessions on a sliding scale.
To qualify, you must be a first-time buyer (or your partner must be), at least 18 years old, and an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
